Policy & Process

Associate Vice President for Equity and Title IX Officer

Your experience matters. The University understands that no two experiences are the same and the needs of the parties vary as well. The University’s process options under the Sexual Misconduct Policy hold space for healing and accountability.

Complaint Investigative Process

For impacted parties who are seeking a potential disciplinary finding and sanction against a responding party, the Policy provides for an investigative process that supports a thorough fact-finding by a two-person investigative team who are trained in the dynamics of sexual misconduct, neutral investigative technique, and the impact of historical and recent trauma on an individual’s ability to recall and communicate their experience.

Non-Investigative Process Options

For parties who are interested in a non-investigative process, the University provides options for facilitated resolution, including mediation and restorative practices. The AVP-Title IX Office partners with the Office of the Ombuds and Restorative Practices @ Penn (RP@P), among others, to provide process options when both parties agree to resolve the matter using a facilitated, non-investigative process.
